replying to u/richonarampage: I mean if folks want exceptional experiences as recommendations then that list is indeed pretty short and no surprise there. I think this sub does a bit better than whatever is simply “hyped” on social media. For Brooklyn Rice & Miso is a solid lunch option. Fat Rabbit is pretty tasty diner with retro vibes. A bit more than diner prices but it’s more like a restaurant cosplaying as a diner. Kuun has solid Korean noodles. Personally I did not like Evelina at all. Tried multiple times but consistently hectic and slow service for sub par food at price point. For Manhattan My low key secret spot is TsuKuShi. Very homey Japanese food. Patrons are almost entirely Japanese expats. Vibe and food feels like you’re transported to Tokyo. Don’t expect some mind blowing culinary experience. Food can be a bit hit or miss but generally very comforting. Sake list is good and prices for bottles are very reasonable. Open late.

replying to u/dangerbears: My only Evelina experience was going on a sunny afternoon to sit outside and have cocktails and apps. It was perfect for something like that, the vibes were relaxed and their cocktail menu is great. I walk by there nearly everyday at peak dinner time and it's a zoo.
“The last straw for me was when I got the Carbonara off their brunch menu. Took super long time and when it did come out it was basically noodles in scrambled egg. So disappointing.”
