replying to u/crazeman: I would go for ANDO patisserie in the East Village. From they're website, they sell "French-Asian" desserts but IMO they lean towards more Chinese flavors so it's more like a spot for "elevated" Chinese pastries.

replying to u/Dull_Name_2077: High end Korean is very trendy right now and may be interesting for you to try. Not necessarily high end, but Ariari is both Korean (checks your leans Asian box) and can scratch your seafood itch. Also, the Korean bakery Lysee has a corn pastry I think is delightful. On my to eat list (so I can’t personally vouch for it) are Papa d’Amour, which is Dominique Ansel’s (inventor of the cronut) Taiwanese fusion bakery. And not perfectly a dessert, but Breads Bakery’s chocolate babka is the gift I bring every time I leave NYC but you can’t find something like this anywhere else.

replying to u/jewree: You are missing the baked goods! Yes, the Bay Area has good bakeries, but ... there are some real gems in NY. A few to consider: * Papa d’Amour - Dominique Ansel's latest place (yes, the cronut guy), but it is a different concept from his other bakeries, it is French technique as he is known for, but, applied to Taiwanese items. The Kurobuta Hot Dog Danish is a thing of beauty and sooo unique (for a savory item). * Tall Poppy - masters of laminated dough. * If you want cheesecake ... Veniero's for classic, Eileen's for my actual fave, Pinklady Cheese Tart for ube basque style. * I've really enjoyed items from Petit Chou, Win Son, LeLecha * Oh, it's the year of the cinnamon roll (or, I guess, last year was), but check out at least one of Sunday Morning, Spirals, Benji's Buns (niche cinnamon roll only places) or any of the bakeries that pump out excellent versions (Hanis, Petit Chou, Tall Poppy, etc).
