  • replying to u/Tofuhousewife: I grew up in Vegas and remember going to golden steer a couple times as a kid. I even remember my stepdad buying a GROUPON for the restaurant lol. It’s always been okay. I don’t understand the new hype around it unless they changed and are genuinely top quality, but ehhh I doubt it lol. Wonder how it’ll do here, there are A LOT of good steakhouses in the city.

I went a few months and it's definitely not top quality. I don't even think they use prime beef, no dry/wet aging, and they really push their sauces to mask the quality and flavor.

  • I went on Saturday. It was quite good. Considering they've only been open for one week and I've only visited once I'm hesitant to rank it up there with the elite places, but on my visit they were in that same echelon.

  • replying to u/FUCK_CAPTCHAS: It's gotten a bit of flak on here but I did have dinner in the bar room at Golden Steer and did steak + martini's and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great ambience and old school feel, really good bartenders and a solid martini, thought the tomahawk was excellent as well.

I had the worst martinis (everyone’s in a large group consistently wrong garnish, warm and vermouth filled even when sent back and asked dry) I’ve had in the city at a place of this caliber but everything else was really nice. I had the big dry aged porterhouse and it was really nice. Steak Mac and cheese also great.

  • replying to u/RoeMajesta: the vegas location is legit though

i agree that it doesnt compete with the top tier steakhouses in NYC, but i thought it was solid. i’d go back just for the prime rib mac and cheese

  • Golden Steer has really, really been overhyped by social media over the past few years, and is now one of the tougher spots to land a reservation. But there are much better options in Vegas for a good steak.

  • Why would anyone want to go the New York branch of a highly overrated Vegas steakhouse in the best steakhouse city in the entire world? I don't get it.

They can be like the Olive Garden.

  • replying to u/manicakes1: Golden Steer is so new I’m not sure you’ll get much feedback on it yet.

It’s average at best in Vegas. Fun vibe but if the food is the same in NYC as Vegas it’s going to get lost in the mix.

  • replying to u/johnny_moist: went earlier this year for the first time and it was legit one of the best steakhouse dinners i’ve ever had

I think that says more about you than about the steakhouse lol.

  • replying to u/DazzlingTurnover7446: I went last night and I couldn’t have been more underwhelmed by the food. Focusing on the meat, my takeaway is that in an era of high quality beef, they are buying closer to the bottom of the barrel. Compared to the quality of a lower end cut from Snake River for instance, this was your local grocery at its most mid. I was not surprised based on the prices. This is not an outpost trying to compete in the fine dining world of NYC steakhouses, this is a place trying to compete with Golden Corral.

Totally felt the same! We ended up going shortly after my post, it continues to get glowing reviews, which is crazy to me!!

  • Golden Steer in Vegas (which imo topped both of them handedly)

  • replying to u/banallthemusic: Why? It’s such a classic Vegas spot which people go for the Vegas vibes more than the food. Can’t see it doing great here but could do well in Florida
