replying to u/BigOlSandwichBoy: i'm not saying this to be snotty because so many people have had such good things to say about Terre that it must have been wholly non-representative, and I may in fact give it another chance, but Terre holds the distinction of "worst meal I've had in NYC so far". Everything was gummy, underseasoned, weird af, the service almost bordered on hostile and a bunch of tables were dirty.
“I also had a pretty poor meal when I went to Terre on a date earlier this year. This cod dish in particular the fish tasted fishy in a not-fresh way, and everything on the plate clashed in terms of flavor and texture, as well as being under seasoned.”

replying to u/Patient_Bad5862: Not pasta Louise in park slope. I like terre and Al di la. Piccoli is underrated but they have a great selection of pasta dishes. Flora has a few pasta dishes that are worth checking out

I hate to talk negatively about a local spot, but I was blown away by the cost the first and last time I dined there. I lived in Manhattan for years and this was easily as expensive as some high end restaurants there.

replying to u/Front-Limit-3786: Cacio e pepe (east village) is more of a gimmick spot for the second avenue crowd. Lotta people hating on this pic… but i assure you Fiascheterria Pistoia is one of the best in NYC and definitely levels above cacio e pepe. Give it a try. I will say it’s a bit pricey for portion size - but their whole crew is transplanted from Pistoia so i assume they gotta pay real wages.

Mostly because it seems like an unassuming small local Italian spot, but the owners are from Italy, all the pasta is fresh and homemade, all wine is natural and it is INSANELY GOOD. they even have a dessert of biscotti with a vin santo to dip it in (a very Tuscan dessert and the second time I’ve ever seen it on a menu outside of Italy). Maybe because I live in the area I went in with low expectations but one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.

replying to u/fishbellyfish: FWIW I’ve recently had outstanding service at Lord’s, Corkbuzz, Casa Mono and Vinyl Steakhouse. Kind of know what to expect service wise at Polo Bar, Carbone, Lucien, etc. so I’m not too put off if the staff is a bit curt as long as the food is good and I’m not rushed. Perhaps having this disposition helps.
