It's a market, not a restaurant. People buy grade here and the advice is to tell the counter what you're making so they point you to the right thing. The and the four pound box of head on come up most, and the is about $26. Staff know the product and will talk you through it.

  • I work in the seafood industry and I think they're the best in the city in terms of selection, quality, price, and knowledge.

  • the best location in the city, bang for your buck, is Aqua Best. Get the 4lb box of frozen head on shrimp, it's like... 26 bucks, an insane deal with very high quality shrimp.

  • replying to u/Mauve__avenger_: It's worth noting that "sushi-grade" and "sashimi-grade" are completely non-regulated terms. It CAN mean that it's been flash frozen to kill parasites but that's not a guarantee. Sorry if I sound pedantic but I just wanted to mention it. As the other person said though, AquaBest is, well, the best. Just tell them you're having it for sushi/sashimi and they'll give you something great. I'd recommend the Ora King salmon. It's a crazy high-quality king salmon farm raised in New Zealand. It's not cheap but it's well worth it. But either way you can't do better than AquaBest. I work in the seafood industry and I think they're the best in the city in terms of selection, quality, price, and knowledge. Don't be afraid to talk to them and ask questions, they're always happy to chat and point you in the right direction.

I’ve actually had some bad experiences with Aqua Best starting about a decade ago. More than once I’ve purchased fish (salmon, most notably) that turned out to be water-logged

  • replying to u/baordog: Do they have prawns at the market? Their online:delivery only lists shrimp

Generally they tend to have a good selection of different kinds of shrimp & shellfish, but it depends on the season.

  • replying to u/justflipping: Why are you suspicious of those Korean and Japanese marts? Besides those, there’s also Osakana and Aqua Best.

They used sustainably farmed fish and it’s always high quality.
