replying to u/johnsciarrino: My wife and I love dining out in the city. It’s one of the main things that have kept us here when we were considering moving to a place with more space. We religiously go out for more expensive places on Friday nights and save cheaper or newer places for mid week. Recently, we’ve decided that if it’s on IG, we won’t bother. The only recommendations we value anymore are word of mouth from friends who have actually dined there. What I’m more interested in isn’t new restaurants but restaurants that have been around for decades. Especially ones that may have been trendy years ago but aren’t quite as hyped anymore but still survive. Easily the best yardstick for quality of food and service. Mr Chow’s doesn’t have the clout that it once did but I’ll be damned if their ma mignon, Dungeness crabs and chicken satays aren’t delicious. The service is over the top; they bed over backwards to accommodate, the drinks come fast, the order is always perfect, the host gives us a huge hello and the waiters remember us. Same deal at striphouse, at Shabu tatsu, at temple court, at tanoshi sushi, at Campagnola. When dinner is automatically $300 at least, why try something new just because it’s got a line of the influenced out the door?
