replying to u/willowcat20: Not Indian, but been having NYC Indian food since I could eat solids! I had Kanyakumari this weekend - fabulous South Indian food, which has been my preference as well because of less dairy and gluten. I also loved Semma, also South Indian. Both are more expensive than your usual. I have not found a South Indian restaurant at a friendlier price point, but my favorite North Indian would be: Atithi in Williamsburg, Seva in Astoria. I did *not* like Angel - the meat was hard and the flavor was lacking. I was super unimpressed.
