  • This place is amazing. Service, food, and don't feel obligated to get the burrito. I wound up with the quesadilla especiala and I don't think Ive had a sauce with chipotle this good.

  • For me it’s incredible. All of the guisados are delicious, and they are one of only 2 people in New York City making flour tortillas by hand (Yellow Rose, Vato and Santa Fe are all rolled by machine, I believe).

  • As an annoying Californian that’s lived here 10 years and still is searching for a good burrito, this came the closest in flavor to what I miss.

  • the small egg and cheese burrito at Los Burritos Juarez in Fort Greene are excellent and very similar in sensibility to Austin breakfast tacos. Also, they make their tortillas in house and they are divine.

  • The burrito was good but thought the service was honestly subpar.

  • A bean burrito might be my favorite food, but theirs is just a homogenous goo that at best tastes like pork fat and not even beans or seasoning. My gf and I thought the chili colorado was bland too.

  • Maybe I went on an off day, but I found it over-hyped and underwhelming.

  • The quality of the handmade tortillas are impressive, but the fillings themselves are really a big let down.

  • replying to u/YankeeHotelFoxtrot16: Love the frijoles con queso burrito at Burritos Juarez. Simple but so tasty. Amazing what a quality tortilla can do. So glad they opened when they did too, it’s filling the huge void left by the Bordertown pop-ups at Commune ending as they get ready to open their brick and mortar.

Never had a bean and cheese burrito where you can taste the ingredients separately and it isn't just one glob of paste. Very impressive

  • the burritos are still delicious but not quite as good as previous times, possibly because it's more hands or because they're pre-griddling the tortillas.

  • replying to u/Piedude223: The best burritos are the ones that actually care about the tortilla. I'm so tired of bland, gummy tortillas with otherwise decent filling. I get that steamed tortillas are a thing with mission style but at least have some flavor in your tortilla if you do that. That + putting lettuce in a burrito is almost a litmus test of a good burrito to me. Nobody likes soggy, wilted lettuce in their burrito.. Son del north does the best tortilla but i like a carby filling like LA or mission style. Still searching for one to hit that itch so i guess Ill check out the spots from this thread

Los Burritos Juarez in Fort Green has pillowy, fresh cooked tortillas and they send me! even the bean and cheese burrito.

  • replying to u/oakman26: If anyone comes after me for not liking Vato, Los Burritos Juarez, Ceremonia, or Little Flower: [https://imgur.com/a/1az4IAG](https://imgur.com/a/1az4IAG) Vato was a bit too greasy and simple (can't complain about the amount of meat though) Los Burritos Juarez I remember being annoyed at the thickness / flouryness of the tortilla and the ratio of tortilla to filling, I should have taken a cross section picture to remember better though. Ceremonia because they cooked the filling in a huge batch so its way too homogenous, the wait is ridiculous too. Little flower, I actually really liked the mergeuz sausage, it worked really well in the role of chorizo, but I waited like literally 30 minutes (it was admittedly a pleasant summer weekend so what can you expect), and as I mentioned I found the cold pico and crema to be too wet and cold in a weird contrast.

my gripe with LBJ was with the filling, was too homogenous and one-note flavor of pork fat for me

I kind of like the ratio now. I prefer them in the colder months. Mole and beans and cheese are the way to go.

  • replying to u/quellsrecipe: Open up the cheese and bean and fill it with their red hot sauce. That's my hack.

Their rojo salsa was my favorite thing I had. For sure.

totally agree with you re the los burritos juarez tortillas being too thick.

i had multiple fucking bones in my burrito from los burritos juarez. it was terrible.

  • Is it crazy I didn’t like it at all. I’m willing to give it another chance because it was packed but it took 45 minutes to get my food post ordering and the best part was the tortilla and not the meat itself

  • replying to u/Garconavecunreve: I agree on some of the spots (carnitas Ramirez, mariscos, taqueria Ramirez) - there’s definitely good Mexican in the city. The likes of Electric burrito and Ursula make great mexian-ish food, tastes great but not super authentic (which I by no means have an issue with, but is just a tad bit different) Cosme and oxomoco are two of my favourite restaurants in the city but again: not comparable to a taco stand in a LA parking lot. All in all my sentiment is probably along the lines of: you can def get some decent Mexican in NYC but nowhere near as much choice and the peak quality in terms of street food price selection will never (purely as result of geographic factors) match California

Hand made and made to order fluffy tortillas that will make you happy.

They catered an event I went to and I had to go back for a second (and third) burrito. Those tortillas are phenomenal

  • replying to u/miesny9: The best burritos I’ve had in NY are from Burritos Juárez, a place in Fort Greene Brooklyn. They’re ‘authentic’ as in they don’t have rice or lettuce inside them, just a pillowy flour tortilla with beans, meat or vegetarian filling.

That being said, they are an El Paso / Juarez style burrito and their adobada is very good

  • replying to u/poopship462: The tortilla is really good. But the filling is kinda eh

Los burritos Juarez is more what I’m looking for.

  • Border Town and Burritos Juarez have amazing hand-rolled flour tortillas but they’re filled with guisos, not grilled meats.

  • replying to u/tomoflathead: Alright, had the bean and cheese burritto today, and it suffered from the same excess of salt. However the beans were very good!. Seems to me like it's the Oaxaca cheese. For the price it just ain't on point enough, probably won't be returning. You'd think a simple fix like this could be solved through taste testing, but alas.

Like inedibly salty, and i am not shy on salt.

  • My GF loved the tortillas so much she asked if they would just sell them to her sans filling

  • Only this spot and Los Burritos Juarez in Fort Greene are selling proper Norteno style Mexican burritos

  • replying to u/Sea_Pangolin1525: This is the biggest problem with nyc mexican food for someone from California or Texas, most places do not feature refried beans but rather black beans. Some don't even feature salsa. The places you name are hipper, somewhat fancier take-out places as opposed to the mom and pop places on every corner in the southwest US that have good bean and cheese. I go to Acapulco in Greenpoint which is the closest I've found. They have a big vat of refried beans and salsa on the table at least. PS, people are going to say Los Burritos Juarez and, other than the fact that you have to wait in a line for something that should be a basic easy staple, I find the tortilla to thick and chewy so that it overwhelms.

    I love chewy tortillas

  • replying to u/jessicadepressica: I did not like it either. I went today and it was not that good at allllll

It’s a fresher Amy’s burrito for top dollar price.

  • replying to u/tomoflathead: Had it for the first time the other day. The tortilla was incredible and the meat was well cooked, but wayyy too much salt. Going to have to run it back and see if that was an off-day

For the price it just ain't on point enough, probably won't be returning.
