replying to u/Boom_Valvo: You can also hit MO’s donuts- which are awesome. Tacos Ramirez, close to mos donuts has awesome tacos al pastor Veselka is overrated. It can actually be pretty bad. And there will be a long line. It’s only good 👍 for you wanting to say you have been. I would tell people to pass. And I ate there a lot when I lived in the neighborhood. Skip little cupcake for Magnolia cupcakes and banana pudding Katz is very good. Everyone has to keep the ticket, it will be asked for on the way out. Don’t lose any. But you can put all the food on one ticket no problem. You can pay in the back via credit card. Upfront by the door is cash only. Industrie pizza is very good. But it’s packed. Soo it’s like you will grab your slices and eat where you can find a spot. Not a nice sit down but great pizza Di faras is great pizza- but the original is really out of the way for you. Not the best use of time to get there. And no where really yo sit. Paulie Gs is near mos donuts and tacos Ramirez. Peter Pan is relatively close by car. You don’t have anything in Chinatown Most of the spots are more grab and go, not really sit down for dinner..

replying to u/Cat_Island: I’m an exClevelander, we also have a sizable population of Polish folks, not like you in Pittsburgh but still one of our larger ethnic groups. I’ve been I the city for almost 2 decades and still haven’t found pierogi that live up to what I grew up with in terms of taste or price. But, Streecha in the East Village has pretty damn good Ukrainian varenyky. It’s owned by a Ukrainian church and is very down to earth, cafeteria style. They changed leadership last year so idk if it’s still the same but they’re around $12/9 varenyky (smaller size) and usually they’re all potato but sometimes there are a few sauerkraut ones in the mix. They are as close to the rust belt pierogi experience as I’ve found in nyc. they’re very tasty! The stuffed cabbage there is great most days too. And the borscht. Church volunteers do the cooking so I find the nonvarenyky recipes seem to vary a little week to week. What I miss the most about the pierogi back home are the sweet cabbage filled ones the church ladies would sell frozen in big bags around lent.

They cleaned the place up after he left and are operating without him, with old Ukrainian women making the food. The manager got financing from an investor and will be opening a private restaurant for profit. In case no one knew streechas menu always says “suggested donation” because it’s run as a non profit church side business
