  • replying to u/SidSalts: Please tell me about Olde City. There's one in my area but I've assumed (lack of reviews/chatter among friends, decor, menu) that it's kind of corny and secondhand.

Very solid cheesesteaks with proper options/cheeses/toppings. They bring in the bread and soft pretzels from Philly. Only done takeout and never been disappointed.

  • replying to u/SS1215: I really wanted to like Olde City but I found it to be so bland when I tried it! Maybe it’s location dependent though. I had the 8th avenue location pretty soon after it opened but I’d be willing to try again from a different one since I usually see positive reviews.

I’ve only ever gotten Olde City through delivery (several times) and I agree they’re bland and usually don’t have as much filling as in the photo posted here. Their bread is also inconsistent (sometimes toasted well, sometimes not).

They changed their bread and I think it ruins the cheesesteak now. It used to be a nice crispy crust, soft interior. Now it's like a sponge/soft/no crisp or taste. Low quality grocery store sort of roll.

  • But I do dig the Cheese steaks at Olde City. And the fact that you can sub in chicken is also dope at Olde (juiciest chicken over there).

  • Olde city cheesteaks are better though, and have a fantastic lunch special for $20 roughly with a side and drink
