replying to u/No-Highlight-6999: It depends on the type of soup dumplings you want. Din tai fung & Pinch Chinese are very similar in that they've thin and small soup dumplings. They're both upscale and a great (albeit expensive) experience. Joe's soup dumpling skin is thick and it is huge. Nan xiang soup dumplings are honestly not great. Dumpling skin was thick and I would only go if you want to try the different flavors for a different experience.

replying to u/thansal: If you've had XLB before, nothing here is going to blow your mind. We've had a few really stand out places, but all have closed/dropped in quality/closed, then reopened by someone else after having already dropped in quality before closing anyway (Nan Xiang). Pinch might be great, but I haven't been yet. None of the places in Chinatown are stellar (lots of GOOD XLB there though, my fav is 100 Mott st for cheap and cheerful). The Bao was my best in Manhattan for a while, but they've dropped in quality a lot since the pandemic (also Nan Xiang just opened literally RIGHT next to them, lulz). The 'best' were places in Queens. Kung Fu XLB was the same owners as The Bao, but they're closed (and had dropped in quality), You Garden was the reigning king after Nan Xiang dropped in quality (supposedly it was a former Nan Xiang cook that opened it), Nan Xiang was the old school reigning champ, but they dropped in quality a long time ago (and then closed, and then a fan bought the name and reopened them). Dumpling Galaxy had really great ones, but they're gone, same with Memories of Shanghai.
