The best Italian restaurant in the city is currently Marea, but they're not trying to appeal to the TikTok crowd so you won't find it on any social media list.

Left every plate spotless. It’s such a great mix of proper ingredients and skill and joy from the kitchen, and like, you’ll have a sausage that tastes like you remember an Italian sausage but it’s the best you’ve ever had yet still surprising. Pastas made me travel to another dimension. Nothing over salted, handmade and perfectly al dente, mind blowing flavors. Great vibe and music and staff incredible it’s this dialed in after what 6 months.

I’ve eaten things I wouldn’t normally order (like tendon, somehow lightly integrated into a salad with a day long prep that turns tendon into like a delicious thin sliced ham) and been amazed. It’s progressive and new and inventive with Italian but satisfying and cozy, but not pretentious and weird. And there’s basic familiar stuff too. There’s a farfelle Pasta dish with pancetta and Calabrian chili that is one of my favorite things to eat in NYC along with the fresh warm focaccia bread and the seasonal spread it comes with. They try not to waste parts of any animal they cook with, and everything is seasonal and menu constantly changing due to freshness of ingredients. Most of the same team just got a James Beard nomination for the sister restaurant 4 Horseman, they should’ve chosen I Cavallini. It’s also a great room with good music and no bad seats and chill but not overbearing professional friendly front of house. Artuzzi is great, a bit less unique to me. Don Angie is the most overhyped, coasting on its Instagram laurels, washed up, overpacked, bad service, mediocre food that’s stale and cooked rushed and badly, I think of in all of NYC. I get downvoted for this all the time but Idgaf it’s the truth. It’s not worth the reservation. Torrisi is fantastic, a beautiful restaurant, great service, with a few standout dishes. Like just not enjoyable food. Really took a 180 from their previous menu rotations. It shocked me. So I totally get where you’re coming from. The pork chop at I Cavalini changes my life too
