IMO Fette Sau is solid but can be inconsistent, particularly with their ribs.

  • replying to u/basis4aday: Had walked by this place for YEARS and finally tried it last weekend. MEH

I got food poisoning from their room temp meat storage compartment the first time I went lol. Love paying extra for cold food.

  • Pork belly, beef brisket, and "Cora's broccoli salad" — a nice complement to the meats

I wish Fette Sau was better but it’s ultimately not that good. Priced as if it were a top notch BBQ place and it’s pretty meh.

  • the beans at Fette Sau in Williamsburg are possibly their best dish

  • replying to u/Subject2Change: Nothing of value will be missed. Overpriced, mid "BBQ".

They’re all about the same in price and I wouldn’t say any better

  • replying to u/SolitaryReign: Skip the bbq. Went last year and it has gone down in quality. Weird as St Anselm is good.

I went a couple of times and found the meat to be way too dry from overcooking, and one time it was also over-salted

Went to Fette Sau last night and was a little disappointed. $30 for 4 ribs and they weren’t that great, but the brisket and cornbread were solid.

  • replying to u/BaetrixReloaded: hometown is pretty agreed upon but i’ve never been so can’t speak to it. i really like fette sau but the price point is not really justified to a lot of people.

Fette sau has some great sides, their brisket is terrible though.

  • replying to u/rat3an: Fette Sau in Williamsburg used to be great. I haven’t been there in a few years but worth checking out.

Went yesterday and it was pretty good! Brisket was amazing and the ribs were decent

  • replying to u/sludgeone: Fette Sau is unbelievably bland and dry for such a pricey barbecue establishment

I just had it a few months ago and the brisket was juicy as all hell so I think you got a bad day

  • replying to u/xlaurenthead: There’s no legitimate Texas or southern bbq in NYC. As a former Texan I’ve been looking for decades. However K-Town is just downtown from Times Sq on 32nd and full of great Korean BBQ spots such as Nubiani

Fette Sau in Wburg has some pretty decent brisket and will even sell you burnt ends if they have them. I love their assorted sauces, too.

  • Went there years ago for my birthday and was charged like $40 for a pretty normal amount of food which was tasty but not spectacular. Never went back.

  • replying to u/Specialist_Support_1: Fette Sau in Williamsburg has respectable BBQ.

And particularly good ribs! Don’t expect Texas level, but it’s good.

In my opinion way better than anything in Manhattan, but still miles behind Hometown

  • replying to u/iniquities: I've been meaning to try Fette Sau. I heard they started off strong, went downhill, and are good again.

It’s worth going to for sure. I cannot recommend it enough

  • replying to u/no_littering: Ok this is a great take. Yellow Rose is the best tex mex restaurant to open in NY in years (decades?), it’s one of the hottest spots in town, and it would be laughed out of a third-tier Texas town. None of the New England-style fried fish/lobster joints would hold a candle to a typical roadside clam shack in Maine or on Cape Cod. I think Hometown is great but beyond that the barbecue here is a disaster. Most of the regional American cuisine here is just flyover cosplay for New Yorkers.

Fette Sau does an OK brisket.

  • They call it “beans” but that was possibly my favorite item at Fette Sau.

I hear it used to be better, but I went last year and the brisket was dry af. The ribs were pretty good, though

There’s just better options that are less pricey and more consistently good because they don’t sit in buffer style trays.

  • fette sau in williamsburg has been my favorite since they opened over a decade ago and the quality hasn’t lapsed at all i initially judge a bbq place on their brisket and fette sau’s has always been insanely good whereas a lot of the other places in the city don’t even come close

  • replying to u/RecycledAccountName: People complain about prices a lot, but the complaints are very warranted for Fette Sau. It's offensive. Quality has also slipped over the years.

it just didn’t hit. The meat was over salted and dry, and the prices were high.

  • replying to u/Winter_Remove994: Are people going to miss this place? I dont remember it being very good

Finally tried it a couple years ago and got one of the driest briskets I’ve ever had. The ribs were pretty good, though.

  • replying to u/Panelak_Cadillac: Im not one of them.

If you got a plate with 4 things, 2 might be good and the other two are dry and flavorless. Obviously some places have items that are better than others (good pork, bad brisket)there was no consistency in any form.

  • The brisket was excellent. I have zero complaints about Fette Sau.

  • replying to u/Sad_Hungry: People bashing Fette Sau that didn’t live here around 18 years ago, before Williamsburg completely flipped and was starting to change but still had at least traces of its soul left.. Those people won’t understand why this place used to have cache especially when BBQ was hard to find in the boroughs. New places opened and maybe the novelty wore off. That’s fair. Also inflation and COVID hurt most food businesses and that’s across the board. However, there was a time when Fette Sau was destination worthy. Forget that the pit master actually won BBQ competitions, Fette Sau mattered id only because there was a time where there was no John Browns, no Morgans , No Mables, No Delaney Brisket-town (short lived), No Bark , No Mighty Quinns, No Hometown, No Pig Beach, No Hill Country .. …there was the Madison Sq Park BBQ fest in like 2003 and then otherwise places like Dinosaur , Blue Smoke, Pearsons, APL and whatever ersatz chain places like Virgil’s / Dallas BBQ.. RIP Fette Sau as an early pioneer of bringing at least a decent facsimile of Southern BBQ to the masses.

Had some of the worst ribs at this place about a year ago. Dry with barely any meat. For some outrageous price.

  • My problem with Fette Sau was that the brisket they gave me was always 50%+ fat. Not sure how thats acceptable, especially for their prices.
