replying to u/BankshotMcG: Also, as you'll probably only have time and room for one cheesecake: Junior's is great, but Eileen's is actually transcendent. Nothing comes close. Skip Cheesecake factory, it's everywhere rather than NYC. The get at Magnolia is actually the banana pudding.

replying to u/btrd_toast: Personally I didn't enjoy Eileens. It's low on density and flavor. My favorite was Mah-ze-dahr, but there's something weird going on with their management recently. I also had an excellent piece at Hani's recently.

replying to u/114631: I’ve posted before BUT, here are my favs around the city: Smor - MUST get the cardamom bun; they pretty much roll and pump them out all day. Librae - I don't think I've had one bad thing here. Basque cheesecake, pistachio rose croissant, breads, baguettes, focaccias, cookies, sweet and savory pastries. All incredible. Petit Chou - eclairs are to DIE for, especially the pistachio. . Bread Story - pistachio white chocolate cookie is amazing La Cabra - their sweets are amazing. Mah ze Dahr - excellent desserts and pastries. I love the cheesecake, doughnut, and the chocolate crinkle cookie. They used to have black and white cookies (like way back when they opened, but haven't seen them in the last few years). Moe's Doughs - my favorite doughnuts in the city. They are cake doughnuts. I love the pistachio one. Supermoon Bakehouse - pastries looked designed for instagram, but they taste as good as they look. I particularly love their doughnuts and soft serve. Bench Flour - excellent morning buns (and savory items). Mel - pistachio croissant is incredible. Breads are excellent. Temporarily closed, however, as they're in the process of moving. Levain - obviously known for their cookies, but don't sleep on their butter and jam baguette. Breads Bakery - great babka (and cheese straws). Olmsted - they have this amazing lavender meringue/sorbet dessert that is so pleasant in terms of contrasting soft textures and temperatures. Ole and Steen Lagkagehuset sells a very solid croissant as well as a Danish interpretation of a French croissant (designed by a French baker) that’s also not bad… for a danish.
