replying to u/JayMoots: Blackseed was *really* good when it first opened and they cooked the bagels in-house. Sometime in the last few years as part of a [massive planned expansion](https://web.archive.org/web/20220515135520/https://www.crainsnewyork.com/small-business/black-seed-bagels-real-estate-strategy-capitalizes-its-bagels-popularity), they switched over to a centralized commissary system. All the bagels are made at a centralized kitchen and trucked to each location. The quality suffered a lot. A pretty solid rule of thumb with bagels is if they don't make the bagels from scratch on the premises, it's not going to be good.

The couple of times I had black seed, they seemed like a run of the mill bagel you would get in NYC or NJ.

The couple of times I had black seed, they seemed like a run of the mill bagel you would get in NYC or NJ.
