replying to u/RecycledAccountName: I think people assume with its branding and tik tok hype that it’s probably owned by some restaurant group or backed by VC money, or has celebrity investors, or whatever the fuck. Williamsburg, soho, west village and similar neighborhoods are chock full of those places and i share people’s aversion to them. I looked into Apollo and was surprised to find that it’s from the owner of Leo, and it was basically a pet project of his during the pandemic. He’s a born and raised New Yorker who grew up in the restaurant industry. That was enough for me to give Apollo a shot when I walked by at off hours. I was still expecting to be underwhelmed by the bagels and cross it off my list for good - but, damnit. Those bagels are unbelievably good.

replying to u/imVengy: a bit of a rant here but as much as I like Leo, the service is brutal. Not sure if it's just Williamsburg in general and just a tiny "talent pool" to choose from but nearly all of the Williamsburg restaurants I've gone to, outside of a few, the staff is generally overly lax and careless. My wife and I have gone to Leo's thrice, bringing my family from out of town once because we thought the food was that good, and all three times service was notably underwhelming. The bagel / slice shop next door is all I can do from them.

I guess it’s because they don’t really advertise it, it’s just there. The bagels also incredible. You can order with farm fresh tomato too, topped with their olive oil and salt and pepper. It’s sublime.

replying to u/Unlikely-Guess3775: For next time you come, check out Ops/Leo, Farina, Lala's, Paulie Gee's, Nate's Detroit Style, and Bread and Salt in JC. All are slightly below the hype level of L'industrie/Mamas/Lucali (Ops sometimes takes advance planning for a res), but superb.
