That place was amazing - felt like a never ending party. Prices were super cheap (i think the whole chicken was $8), the green sauce super spicy,, the jalea was piled high and the pisco sours were *strong*. Great memories.

replying to u/lpycb42: PLEASE. As a Peruvian: DO NOT GO TO PIO PIO HELLS KITCHEN. The ceviche is OK but the Aji de gallina was honestly insultingly bad. The chicha was OK. The desserts were good and I’ll give them that. But maybe the other Pio Pios are better. Service was also subpar. I would say, for a quick pit stop place, Chevichelsea is actually the bomb. It’s at the World Trade Center Mall and It’s a stand and it’s quick food bowls but their ceviche and seco are incredible and so is the chicha. My dad is the biggest Peruvian food Snob and he has eaten at the best Peruvian restaurants in Lima and he said that Pollo D’ Oro was so far the best he’s had in NYC. Mission Ceviche, if you want to just splurge for a night out. But, I’ll be honest, it’s not worth the price. Portions are too small. Flavor is good but not great enough to justify their prices. It’s just gourmet Peruvian. But the restaurant is nice and the ambiance is fun.

We hit up: * KJUN (Murray Hill): Korean/Cajun fusion, every dish was sublime and unique * Win Son Bakery (Williamsburg/East Village): Taiwanese-ish bakery that is delicious and also pretty uniquely NY (e.g. scallion BEC sandwich) * Sushi on Me (Jackson Heights): This is a pretty distinct spot, great for celebrations, my cousin said this would be her death row meal * Pio Pio (Several Locations): Peruvian rotisserie chicken with the most addicting sauces, this was a PERFECT takeout/delivery meal for a cozy night in * Apollo Bagels (West Village/East Village): One of my favorites, took our bagels to Washington Square Park on a sunny day, a perfect morning * S&P (NoMad): A New York institution, you may be able to find similar sandwiches in LA but their tuna melt, pastrami, and patty melt sandwiches are just so exquisitely done and in an atmosphere that feels very classic NY
