replying to u/missanthropocenex: Bernie’s in Williamsburg pulled this and it made me never want to go back. For a long time me and my SO knew a lot of their wait staff and managers. It was a cool locals only spot for a minute. Then competly blew up. Go in on a Thursday and seated in fur corner, the bar area is stuffed, we’d waited well over an hour to sit, and I’m sitting there fries not even half done- I’m not a slow eater by the way and the waitress goes in to half grab my plate of unfinished food and says “all done here?” I don’t ever air on the side of drama at restaurants but I just about flipped the fuck out. Like completly unjinged and unbelievably rude behavior. But there’s more: I palm my plate and politely tell her “we’re not quite done here.” And her response? “Well we need to clear this table but you’re allowed to go and stand by the bar and order more drinks there if you want.” Again I politely stood my ground and said “we’ll be done in a few moments.” Jeeeeeesus fucking Christ I’ve never even seen a restaurant in the city try and pull that one.
