I find their Tsukemen way too thick. I feel like I'm dipping my noodles in sausage gravy.

  • replying to u/pookgai: I'm honestly still searching for a good Ramen shop. I try a new place everytime and still havent found a spot that I can solidly recommend. If youre looking for Tsukemen, i can 100% recommend Okiboru in LES. Tsukemen is my favorite style and Okiboru is the only spot that nails the taste and texture. Ive tried tsukemen from many shops in NYC and CA and Okiboru is the closest to my experiences in Japan.

I find okiboru too salty and too fishy. Meh. The noodles & pork are good, the broth is mediocore. Not worth the hype nor the price.

  • The regular tsukemen with pork was fantastic — super rich and flavourful — but I was even more blown away by the vegan option, which was super umami thanks to the mushrooms in the broth.

  • This is a consistent favorite of mine especially now that the lines have died down. I always get the tsukemen with bamboo shoots and pork chashu but if you want an app the shrimp croquettes are delicious.

  • replying to u/PMPOSITIVITY: • Tonkotsu ramen at Tonchin has completely ruined all other ramen for me permanently, ever. I wish I was joking. • Truffle pasta at Fiaschetteria Pistoia. It is the cheapest real Italian truffle pasta in the city that I have found, and it is really, really good.

niboshi tsukemen (get soup wari after you finish noodles!) and great tontori ramen as well

But Tabetomo, Okiburo house of Tsukemen, Ramen Ishida, Izakaya Juraku have more authentic ramen

  • replying to u/phunkytime: Tonchin, tabetomo (Tsukemen) and I know it’s not ramen, but raku for udon have to be my top 3.

    Try okiboru for tsukemen

  • replying to u/Swagyolodemon: I’m prone to agree. The tsukemen spot is better. I prefer the udon from Raku.

    okiboru tsukemen is unbeatable

  • Raku (Udon), Sobaya (Soba), Ramen: Okiburo House of Tsukemen, or Tabetomo would be my recommendations.

  • Okiburo house of Tsukemen is nice for an actual Ramen Ya flair.

  • replying to u/The_CerealDefense: Both Tabetomo (east village) and Okiburo (LES) are as good as you may find anywhere in the US

I had a bowl of tsukemen every day for like 2 weeks straight when I was in japan and they are just as good as anything I've had in japan too.

Seconding Okiburu - incredible and you sit right at the counter and see them making the noodles

  • replying to u/laughingwalls: I like Okiburo house of tsukemen. I am sure there is better, but that one is 3 blocks for me so they get their business. They are house made noodles, they only offer a tonkotsu ramen on the menu and theri that reminds me most of traditional Hakata style ramen (i.e. Tonkotsu Ramen as its is made in Fukoaka). I disagree with all of these up voted posts that are saying Tonchin, and I had it alst week. Tonchin's ramen is not Hakata style ramen: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonkotsu\_ramen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonkotsu_ramen) They have a nice noodle, with a nice chew. But Hakata style ramen generally uses thin noodles. I just don't find their broth as rich or satisfying as a good tonkotsu, style ramen. Its still a good ramen, but if your looking for actual tonkotsu ramen, there is probably more traditional places that do it better.

Okiboru is the only place in NYC I consider similar quality to the good places I’ve had in Japan. This is for both their ramen and Tsukemen.

  • For ramen I’d also probably skip ippudo and go to Okiboru instead.

  • replying to u/justflipping: - Ramen Ishida - Okiboru - Tonchin If you’re down to go to Astoria: Susuru Ramen And fyi saying bao buns is redundant like saying chai tea.

    Okiboru for tsukemen

  • Okiburo in LES is Japanese run and noodles are house made. They do both ramen and tsukumen.

  • replying to u/thansal: The sorta usual culprits might look like: * Hi-Collar or Bar Moga for yoshoku (Japanese Westerner food). Hi-Collar is a lovely coffee shop during the day, and Bar Moga's cocktail service is wonderful. Moga is one of the few places that does the [Tampopo style omurice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVgKccixIhQ). * Sake Bar Decibel - divy bar w/ snacks * Katsu-Hama - great katsu and good curry * Sunrise Mart and Katagiri for ready to eat lunches. Both are nice Japanese grocery stores that do pre-made lunch things. I've heard good things about Sunrise's sandwiches, and I love the gyudon from Katagiri. Katagiri is also one of the better options for rice balls. * Okiboru house of tsukemen - people say they like it better than TabeTomo, but I haven't been yet. * Kenka - been around forever. * Flippers, Taiyaki NYC or Eggcellent soufflés pancake for souffle pancakes (the giant fluffy things, Hi-Collar doesn't serve them, they just have tall pancakes). Not my favorite thing, but worth trying once. Yakitori was covered elsewhere.

I liked the broth of TabeTomo more. It's thicker and just has my flavor profiles more. But I think this is a preference thing
