Foxface Natural

8.1/10

AI-generated summary

The kangaroo tartare is the one everyone names, and the and other get close to the same love. The menu turns over constantly around game and odd ingredients, so people say the apps and raw land more often than the mains. It's expensive, and plenty of diners found the whole meal uneven or just not for them.

  • It was quite good-- the fish was outstanding, they had a pastrami crudo when i went which was great, but the barnacles kinda ruined the meal. $50+ and awful, honestly.

  • I did find the food here really interesting though and very well executed. Everything was cooked perfectly, even if some items were not 100% for me or outside of my comfort zone, and the wines picked to go with each dish were perfect.

  • replying to u/gsbound: I agree that it was inappropriate to send Sietsema for this review, but could you speak to the size of the shrimp? His photo makes it seem like the two together have the same amount of meat as one piece of spot prawn from Sushi Yasuda, which can be had for $10. And Japanese restaurants would not use the same product as it’s not clear to me that the whiteleg shrimp is in fact superior to spot prawn. Now, is the sauce worth $18? Looking at the restaurant’s response, it seems as if customers are really just paying for sustainability. In my opinion, the dish could have been better, cheaper, and in greater quantity if they just switched to one langoustine. But Foxface went for the Hawaiian shrimp for the novelty.

And they were very high quality. Probably comparable to what would be used at a good sushi establishment, since we were eating them raw and they tasted pristine. They also brought us the fried heads in a different sauce which was also very good, as part of the same dish.

  • replying to u/Lyin-Don: I thought the service at Foxface was outstanding. SUPER friendly. Not at all stiff and very knowledgeable. Which can’t be easy considering how unique many of their ingredients are/were.

yeah the service at foxface is excellent...the owner is constantly talking to the customers and explaining dishes and where ingredients have been sourced from, sommelier is very knowledgeable and the each waiter has a good grasp of the methods by which each dish has been prepared.

  • Highlights for me were the kangaroo tartare and the two raw fish preparations I had. Boer goat was good but not amazing, and the duck I had was very under for me.

  • Foxface Natural wasn’t that good. I went about 6 months ago. Their goat was really tender but lacked seasoning and flavor.

  • replying to u/Parasite-Paradise: I feel bad that Fox Face took the brunt of this but I’m relieved to see good media finally saying “wait, are we being scammed here”. Food prices in this city have just exited the reality based community. Sometimes it slips by when you’re having a good time and choosing from a menu. But when someone says “wait, you paid $45 for an entree” it hits me how deranged that is.

Two out of the three dishes my husband and I shared were really outstanding; the other one was also obviously well executed but just didn’t hit for us the same way.

  • I just had a killer uni pasta dish at foxface natural that made me do a double take. Perfectly cooked pasta, a blanket of perfectly seasoned breadcrumbs, and the uni just dressed up in butter and cheese. A winner
