  • Its bubble-fermented bagels are tight, skinny and have a boldly crusty exterior surrounding a still chewy-on-the-inside, smaller-than-average almost Montreal-style bagel that is served open faced, generously layered with an elegant shmear of cream cheese and topped boldly vibrant layers of dill and a confident drizzling of herb-scented extra virgin olive oil.

  • these bagels are probably the best I’ve ever had. I got the lox and the everything bagel is heavily seasoned (the way I like it) and sooo crispy.

  • One of the best bagels I have had in a long time; they get the details right - served open face, good ratio of salmon to cream cheese, everything seasoning on both sides of the bagel.

  • This place felt the most elevated for bagels, and the price point reflected that. While it wouldn’t be my choice for daily sustenance, it’s a great place to remind you of the standard that bagels can be at and how important great ingredients are to making wonderful sandwiches.

  • replying to u/crazy_cucumber7: Anyone who is having on Apollo is close minded. It’s not a traditional New York bagel. But it’s good. Good food is good food. Still love a reg bagel but Apollo is gass

I find their bagels to be like biting into hardtack and then chewing a steak. I know a lot of folks are big into chew but I definitely miss glassy exterior amd fluffy interior with these.

  • replying to u/twoanddone_9737: Have you tried Absolute Bagels? Those are my best ever. Curious to know how they compare if you’ve tried both?

I've been to Absolute, I'd say they're both excellent but slightly different goals. Apollo's is intentionally crispier with more blistering compared to a standard NY bagel.

  • replying to u/plex_unraid_build: I am confused about the hype for apollo bagels.

I thought it was hype until I tried one. Everyone has a preference but I LOVE the chewy sourdough interior + very crispy exterior. Idk if it’s mixed daily or not but their scallion cream cheese tastes so fresh, creamy.

  • This bagel from Apollo is all that - the right proportion of great ingredients, a spritz of lemon to brighten it up, stays together when you eat it.

  • The Apollo bagels aren’t toasted, they have a kind of crispy exterior that is non-traditional but delicious. Very soft inside, not dried out at all.

  • Man the everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, and dill was divine. The bagel was still warm, fresh out of the oven. The bottom was super crispy but the middle was still really chewy and delicious

  • replying to u/yjeffw: I like Pop Up Bagels a lot, if you eat them hot right away and don't wait long. Otherwise my go to is Thompkins. Russ and Daughters for lox, but not the bagels. I feel like I'm the only one in the city who doesn't love Apollo. I don't think it's terrible, but the outside is too tough. I guess everyone loves the contrast with the outside to the soft inside, but to me, it's bordering on jerky.

No, I thought Apollo was terrible. The outside was scorched and rock hard, and the inside while chewy did not have nearly as much flavor as a regular sourdough loaf. In essence, the worst of both bagel and bread worlds.

I also did not love Apollo. I'm partially grumpy that I can't get a poppy seed or onion bagel, but I also found it simultaneously burnt and soggy (not just soft). I won't go back & would never wait in line for it.

  • I went yesterday and it was incredible, i still cannot stop thinking about it.  I got the tomato with chives cream cheese, the oil and pepper were a stroke of genius and combined with the incredible crunchiness it was  amazing.

  • replying to u/WredditSmark: Just had Apollo bagels, I will never listen to a significant majority of people ever again

I thought the bagels themselves were pretty alright (by the high standards of NYC bagels) but the cream cheese was maybe the worst I've gotten from a popular bagel place in the city. It wasn't gross or anything but it was just so far below the standard. Was definitely disappointed.

  • I love the bagels. just had one this morning for breakfast. It’s different from a classic bagel in that the crust is crunchy and slightly chewy with a slight baked nutty flavor from the sourdough and the interior is lighter. I can eat them plain, whereas I wouldn’t eat a regular bagel plain.

  • The outside is a bit too crispy for my liking - hurts the roof of my mouth. They have a very limited menu, too. Scallion cream cheese is pretty good.

  • replying to u/mangohands1: Extra toasted? I have to specify non toasted. A fresh bagel should never be toasted. Agree on the tomatoes though!!

these arent the classic dense and chewy bagels. They are more like, bread. They toast really well

  • apollo is legit one of the better newer bagel spots imo. their lox combo is simple but they actually get the ratios right which is rarer than it should be

  • We stood in line for 30 minutes on a Saturday morning for Apollo, and ended up with hard-to-chew, almost burnt open-faced sandwiches, not even close to other NY bagels we’ve enjoyed. :(

  • I love this specific bagel at Apollo bagel because the proportions of all the ingredients work. It’s the perfect bite. But would I go here for a classic BEC or bagel and cream cheese? No. The bagels themselves remind me of like frozen holiday inn breakfast buffet bagels toasted in an old fashioned rotary toaster.

  • Love the tomato bagel here. If only I didnt have to wrestle the bagel to take a bite out of it haha Nothing beats a bagel with a glassy exterior and fluffy interior, but Apollo makes a nice variation for sure

  • My personal favorite place to get a bagel. I only really order the lox bagel though. The white fish bagel is also good as well.

  • even if I liked more the bread, all of the inside was better from Bagel Pub, however I liked the fresh dill.

  • I had a plain bagel with butter there and it was exactly what I needed. Maybe one of the best bagels I’ve ever had.

  • the bagel itself was greasy, unpleasantly crunchy, and tasted bitter/burnt.

  • replying to u/JayMoots: It's very good but you gotta be careful posting about this place. All the bagel gatekeepers are going to jump in here to tell you that it's not a "real" bagel.

They make very tasty mid-named sourdough sandwiches.

  • replying to u/da0uch: Lifelong bagel eater here. Believe the hype. Apollo Bagels is truly the best bagel in NYC. Honestly I thought this was going to be yet another over-hyped place in NYC, but Apollo slaps.

I love it- eat it every week but idk if it’s a bagel vs an o-shaped sourdough roll

  • Just an incredibly delicious treat that everyone should try since not every bagel shop has good tomatoes.
