Their lasagna is only 2 layers of pasta and burnt. And for that little amount of food they gave the audacity to charge 26 dollars, nothing on the side. I’ve tried it and their burger and got sick both times, It’s literally the worst restaurant I’ve been to in New York and it’s become a joke among my friends.

  • replying to u/Accomplished_Ball815: My biggest complaint with Rolo’s-the-restaurant is the service. Food is good, menu is smart if not super inspired, prices are high but what you expect for that kind of restaurant. But the service is disconnected, impersonal, careless, and not what you expect from a Gramercy Tavern type of place. I live nearby and I only go if someone else wants to eat there when they come to Ridgewood and that’s because of the service. (Also the cost but I love spending money on food so that’s another issue altogether!) The hate for Rolo’s and Kermit as a symbol of greedy gentrification is justified, but that’s not what this sub is about :)

rolo's boosters just must not be very experienced diners IMO. it's fine and tasty. i only go because i live here and there's no where else to get a gorgeous steak or have a fancy schmancy night out, and i'm lazy.

  • replying to u/kingsizeddabs: Went there for lunch around 2pm, said they ran out but they have more for dinner service. Was kinda turned off by that, never went back. Watermelon salad was pretty good though.

I think their burgers are so good because they are true dry aged without breaking the bank.

  • replying to u/jfo23chickens: so I've never been to Rolos and I keep seeing it show up on lists. I figured I'd try to get out there while I"m off from teaching over break. No?

I’ve been twice and was letdown twice. The burger and the war style potatoes were both not good at all, the second time I tried the rigatoni and it was a tasteless mess on a plate.

I loved rolos but I found their dishes to be either absolutely delicious or just insanely salty. Like that burger meat was absolutely fantastic but the burger sauce as so damn salty that I can't taste anything else.

  • their polenta bread is excellent. Most get it with the also excellent calabrian calabrian chili butter

  • This was the first time we took a bite and said wow. So delicious. Kind of burnt flavour, cooked onions and crispy patties. Insanely good honestly

  • Controversial opinion but this place is not worth the hype. Been twice. The polenta bread is too greasy and not particularly impressive, the shrimps were not fresh and totally overcooked, and the wagyu steak was just below average.

Go lasagna, pork chop, polenta bread, burger, and a steak other than the wagyu. The wagyu is a waste of money, its just an american wagyu skirt steak way better off getting a prime bone in cut either a porterhouse or ribeye if there is availability.

  • replying to u/CabassoG: The only things remotely worth it/good there are the burger, war fries, and polenta bread and you can go for brunch to not to have to deal with their lines

Burger, crispy potatoes, and polenta are all amazing. Pork chop I got was phenomenal, like maybe the best I ever had. The lasagna is really good.

  • The burger was kinda underwhelming. Now the pasta..? 🤌🏻🤌🏻

  • Superb experience that justifies the lines around the corner on Tuesdays and maintains a program that is consistently striving for excellence.

I went a few months ago, it was pretty good. My pics are also astoundingly bad so I'm keeping them to myself. The steak was much better than the burger though ircc

  • Our group loved the burger so much, we had to order a second one. Everything was incredible and their two sheet lasagna is also a must order item!

  • I’m sad because i love that burger but you did it dirty

  • the carbonara they have now will make you wonder what you could possibly eat after that would live up to it

  • Such a good spot. The two sheet lasagna is killer there too - would definitely recommend for your next visit

  • All pastas are very good but if you have the opportunity to get fresh wood fire grilled protein I think one should take it.

  • replying to u/ohmaiya: For a bakery I agree, but I’ve waited in long lines for other hyped up places (e.g., Tatiana) and thought it was very much worth it

    Rolo’s is similarly overhyped

  • replying to u/NoSleep2135: What everyone has said. But not only is food more expensive, food quality and quantity is down as well. Places I used to justify going to because I always had leftovers, now I'm served a portion so small I'm still hungry. For $2 more! Higher end restaurants have also been a disappointment (looking at you Rezdora and Rolo's), and so hyped up by influencers that I no longer trust the sources I used to use to find good new restaurants. Lastly, reservations getting bought up by bots. My husband and I would do 1 nice meal every other month or so. It's now such a hassle to make those reservations, that we now make a lavish meal at home. We can literally make steak and lobster + sides + wine + candles for half the price, better quality meat, and no dog sitter.

Like at least give a small side of fries with that $30 burger 😭

  • Favorite thing by a mile, there is the burger, but as you are too late for that, I love the war fries and the Calabrian chili butter polenta bread. For large plate, the lasagna verde is also nice.

  • Rolo's really are amazing and their polenta bread with Calabrian chili butter is even better.
