  • Last time I went, they screwed up our service so bad they offered us comps. When the bill came there were no comps and the servers actively avoided us.

  • Some parts of both of our steaks were truly inedible. Impossibly chewy. I have never had to pull an unchewable part of a steak out of my mouth at a steakhouse.

  • Side note we got the porterhouse which was cooked perfectly, the wine was good and the dining room was gorgeous. Not a place to go looking for value as our bill was around $350 for splitting a steak and some sides but all around very good.

  • Come here for lunch every time I visit NY and it’s always been excellent. Massive fan of the rump steak done rare.

  • replying to u/andthrewaway1: I like keens for the ambiance. but think hawksmoor has better steak. Don't sleep on old homestead I think they have very nice cuts though they charged me like 8 dollars for soda water from the gun after I had bought a very expensive bourbon

found it very average in terms of food and poor in terms of value. The Cesar salad was a loveless and chaotic arrangement of massive leaves of romaine with some sad dressing. The bone marrow was served almost cold and was unimaginative. The ribeye was average.

  • replying to u/Garconavecunreve: If you want the classic nyc steakhouse experience: keens, gallaghers or gage&tollner Best meat: quality meats, cote, Hawksmoor Great places overall: st Anselm, the grill, 4 Charles, La Tete d or

I went to Hawksmoor a couple of days ago and was completely unimpressed with the meat. I got a stringy, underseasoned ribeye that was not cooked to my specification (asked for medium, got rare/medium rare.) I’d sooner send someone to literally any of the other options.

  • The rump is fine. Similar to strip but only slightly chewier and less fatty. Unlike most places they do dry-age the rump offered in the lunch special as well, so it is a good way to try their steak while staying within a budget.

  • Hawksmoor is also extremely disappointing. Expensive, the sides are incredibly small, and it’s so loud in there you can’t even talk.

  • The Sunday roast was a very nice presentation but it was beyond dry. Potatoes were undercooked, vegetables in giant chunks.

  • one of the finest dry aged ribeyes I have ever had. They have one of the only charcoal indoor grills in the city and the taste cannot be replicated. Finished with sprinkle of Malden sea salt. It is perfection.

  • replying to u/jquodt: I was at Hawksmoor one month ago with my girlfriend and found it very average in terms of food and poor in terms of value. The Cesar salad was a loveless and chaotic arrangement of massive leaves of romaine with some sad dressing. The bone marrow was served almost cold and was unimaginative. The ribeye was average. I can easily make that level of steak at home. They also upsold us on the steak because our preferred (smaller) size was not available anymore. Very odd because we had a 7:30 reservation and there were barely and cuts left. We paid $350 for two people and only had one glass of wine each. It felt amateurish. Does not get close to the quality of food and overall experience at Peter Luger. The service there might be perceived very direct but at least they‘re delivering a steak that you can’t make at home and an overall professional experience.

it was one of the worst steakhouses I’ve been to in NYC, if not, the worst. Steaks were ice cold, the sides outside of the scallops were all very meh with the cream spinach being inedible.

  • replying to u/ntg160: Steak not so much. Overhyped. Better elsewhere

Went there and they were out of the *first three* cuts of meat we asked for. Then what we got was barely warm. The sides were excellent though, lol

Hawksmoor is consistently excellent. Their bone-in rib chop in first class. The charcoal grill gives their steaks a terrific flavor profile.

  • replying to u/apollo93: Hawksmoor is not the business - I’d avoid at all costs personally. Subpar steak in an odd environment.

Spot felt weird and ribeye was thinner than I could get at a keyfood. Enjoyed the butt steak tho.

  • Recently had shockingly delicious fried shrimp at the Hawksmoor, a steakhouse at E. 22nd and Park Ave. All of their seafood is excellent with oysters served three different ways and next level roasted scallops.

  • replying to u/kfleming84: Hawksmoor

Steak came out ice cold, sides were awful, and every conversation being had in the place echoes throughout the venue. Probably my least favorite meal in awhile.

  • replying to u/WittsyBandterS: Thank you! Hawksmoore is one I've read pretty split opinions about, so I'm a tad wary.

Steak in my opinion is excellent but would recommend the set lunch menu to be a bit cheaper.

  • replying to u/aeliz333: Nice I've heard good things. Anything you recommend?

Ribeye and fillet are delicious, as is the porterhouse. Don’t sleep on the sauces either - I’m usually a “just let me taste the steak” but a little peppercorn sauce hit the spot. Cocktails and wine list were fantastic too.

  • The service at Hawksmor was so slow they comped us a dessert and sauces and the steaks came out warm and not hot. For how expensive everything was, I won't go there again unless someone's covering the tab.

    H3

  • I had an amazing experience. Our server recommended two desserts for us to choose from. We chose one, but he came back and gave us both—one was free, just because he wanted us to experience both!

  • replying to u/NoConsideration6219: Did you like Hawksmoor? I’ve been there for dinner but heard mixed things about the Sunday Roast. Your photo looks lovely. I love the labeling of every photo so we don’t have to scroll down to see the list too.

I enjoyed Sunday Roast, I think it is a great way to try Hawksmoor without breaking the bank. Sunday Roast is $46. It wasn't as good as I have had in London. They asked did we want our roast pink or well done and mine was RARE and the popover was the worst one I have ever had.

  • replying to u/Garconavecunreve: Doesn’t compare to a quality English roast unfortunately but the Yorkshire puddings are very good. Bone marrow and scallop starters are very good. Sticky toffee for dessert and cocktails seem to be decent.

The meat itself was a bit tough and it didn’t have the comfort food nature of the dish nailed. Everything except the Yorkshire pudding was just off.

  • Having actually been all over the UK and having had roasts in traditional pubs I've got to say this was not it. I agree the gravy was watery, the pudding was dry and the size was kind of grotesque.

  • My first time having Beef Wellington and I can honestly say it was delicious BUT next time will definitely be trying the steak instead. It was great don’t get me wrong, but there’s something about a good steak on a Friday night that’ you can’t beat. Definitely going back.

  • replying to u/BartBeachGuy: Luger is fine. It’s the steakhouse everyone loves to hate. Keen’s on the other hand has become a tourist favorite. It’s overrun with out of towners. Frankly the difference between the steakhouses of city are marginal. People have their favorites but having been to practically every steakhouse in the city many times, I’d suggest Sparks for a traditional experience and Hawksmoor for contemporary.

Hawksmoor is without a doubt the best “i spent $300 here and can’t recall a single dish” steakhouse in NYC. GTFO of here if you’re suggesting it’s a viable “modern” alternative to a Keenes or Lugers.

  • Yea I thought it was mid. Sad because it’s very pricey and the decor is sick. Also our Somme was super passive aggressive and the service overall was pretty poor.

    H2

  • Food was fine, but I've had a lot of roasts and yorkshires and wasn't particularly impressed.

    H2

  • and hawksmoor has been disappointing, I’ve been twice in London and it’s fantastic but the one in NYC just can’t replicate the magic for some reason.
