7th Street BurgerCHAIN

4.9/10American

AI-generated summary

A cheap , usually under $10 for a double, and it's consistent across locations. People complain about the grease though. They say the patty steams instead of crisping and the sauce carries most of the flavor. The with beef and cheese has real fans. Most treat it as late night food, not a destination.

  • 8. 7th Street burger is a staple of the smash burger scene and boasts excellent value and a classic take on a favorite. It’s not always the best at getting those crispy edges I love on a smashburger but for the price point and accessibility, it’s a P4P fav.

  • the burgers were a bit too greasy for my liking, but they tasted great nevertheless. No fancy ingredients, just meat, cheese, onions, pickles and their special sauce. I was a big fan of the fries as well, very crispy and delicious.

  • replying to u/snazzyvalise: Au Cheval has a downstairs bar that’s walk in only. Minetta Tavern will serve walk ins at the bar, but there will likely be a wait unless you go very late. (I think they serve till midnight.) Other thoughts: Corner Bistro, JG Melon. For Smashed: Hamburger America, 7th Street Burger. Good luck.

7th Street is so mid now. Patties have no crust which is the defining thing that makes smash burgers great. They are just drowning in grease.

  • replying to u/shoats: 7th Street Burger for casual, Minetta Tavern for sit-down.

overly greasy cuz they use meat with too much fat in it, often don’t achieve the crisp edge a smash burger should, and they rely heavily on the sauce and cheese to cover up what is otherwise bland, greasy beef, I’m perfectly happy to eat it but it’s not something I’d ever recommend

  • The best bang for your buck now is 7th street ($9.50 for a double, loaded w/ onions and 'special' sauce), but the lack of anywhere to eat it sorta kills it for me.

  • replying to u/panzerxiii: Considering it's George Motz running the joint, is this even a discussion?

Definitely can't say the same about anything I've had from 7th st plus how imo both that burger and Gotham's rely on the sauce as a crutch, to the point where sauce flavor is mostly what comes through

  • Am I crazy for thinking 7th street isn't good? I've gone twice now with friends and gotten it alongside Shake Shack and all 3 of us preferred Shake Shack. This is for the Williamsburg locations. There are no crispy bits and the meat has steamed every time.

  • At both locations I have the opinion that the burgers seem greasier now than they used to be. I’ve found them overwhelmingly rich more than once on the last couple of occasions. Perhaps I’ve gotten demanding of my burgers and spoiled by 7th Streets (still) more than serviceable offering.
