replying to u/CabassoG: The only Japanese markets I am aware of with a moderate amount of fresh produce are Katagiri in midtown east and Hashi just off of Manhattan's Koreatown (at least for produce.) For large markets and for a much better fish selection though they are pricey, you might want to take one of the many ways of transport to Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater in NJ.
