People call this the only place around doing a proper Turkish breakfast. Order the serpme kahvaltı, which is more food than you can finish, and add the menemen or a poğaça from the bakery the same owners run. It's across the river in New Jersey, an easy drive or bus from Manhattan. Regulars are sore that they pulled the mıhlama off the menu.

  • replying to u/GovKathyHochul: - Saray Cuisine in Cliffside Park, NJ. It's a hike, but the Turkish restaurants around there are a lot more legit than what you'll find in the city. Saray's spread isn't huge, but it has all the hits. - Avoid Rana Fifteen. Expensive, small, mediocre food, shitty service. - Consider [emailing Eric Adams' office?](https://x.com/AcarUmut/status/1455761421917110275) Looks like a nice spread! (I've overall found Turkish breakfast options in NYC pretty disappointing. But if you're ever in Istanbul, I got plenty of recs!)

Saray Cuisine is the right answer, although it's gone a little downhill (they took their mıhlama off the menu and I'm pretty sure they tried to convince me that a piece of butter was kaymak last time I went...).

  • The best I've found in the city are at Saray Bakery in Palisades Park across the river - they serve them as part of the kahvaltı at their sister restaurant, Saray Cuisine.
