  • Service was so bad I thought I was on a hidden camera show, then half my friends spent the next day on the toilet ❤️

  • replying to u/youronlydoubt: Jue Lan Club. In a city with 2 Chinatowns, idk why anyone would go there.

We start going fairly regularly for happy hour and the food is pretty good and it’s a chill scene and interesting space.

  • replying to u/johnsciarrino: Years ago, my wife and I discovered Jue Lan Club because our friend Oona was running a small omakase bar upstairs. While waiting for our reservation at the omakase, we had drinks and a snack at the bar at Jue Lan and it was great. They actually recreate Philippe Chow’s chicken satays perfectly and sell them for 1/4th the price of Chows. We start going fairly regularly for happy hour and the food is pretty good and it’s a chill scene and interesting space. Then the pandemic hit and I guess some fucking housewife showed up there and my oh my did it change. Awful people, there only to be seen, bringing screaming children, it was bonkers how it changed so quickly. One night we were there they had a photographer going from table to table taking pictures for Instagram. Like a fucking Disney ride. All that shit was too much for us so we haven’t gone back. Now I just pay full price for those Satays at Chow in tribeca, which is its own kind of cringe sometimes, but I can’t help it. I love those stupid things.

I only ever knew it as a sceney place with no real character to it.
