↳replying to u/crazeman: Note that I'm not a kimchi expert. I generally don't like most kimchi from Korean restaurants but there are a few random ones that I do like (more on this later). Also never had Jongga.
The most common brand that I see at Chinese/Asian supermarkets are the one by [Bing Gre](https://www.mercato.com/item/bing-gre-kimchi-16-ounces/259219). Most non fancy, big Chinese/Asian supermarkets will have them in a big ass jar. I don't remember how much they cost but they were the cheapest out of the 3. Bonus points because they're from Queens (they might have moved to NJ since their contact info is in NJ now on their site).
The Sunrise mart in Japan Village/Brooklyn sells their own homemade kimchi so I assume their other locations probably have it as well. I don't remember how much they were but they're more expensive than Bing Gre.
My favorite kimchi is the one from [Kimchi Kooks Kate's Kitchen](https://www.yelp.com/biz/kimchi-kooks-kates-kitchen-brooklyn) in Bay Ridge but they're also the most expensive. Went there a few months ago and got both the classic kimchi and another version that was less/not fermented to compare.
I think I found out that all the kimchi from the restaurants that I do like are less/not fermented lol. Their fish cake banchan was also really good. IMO definitely worth a try but they're kind of super out of the way for most people.
“it’s by far my favorite. It’s expensive but best tasting.”

“I love Kimchi Kooks but agree it's so expensive.”
