replying to u/360DegreeNinjaAttack: I'd classify NY pizza into different categories: slices, pies, Neopolitan, square/sicilian, and specialty. Slices: The 4 best slices of pizza are in Brooklyn. They are: Best Pizza, L'Industrie, Di Fara, and Luigi's of Park Slope. And Lucia of Avenue X is a close 5th. There is now a L'Industrie in the West Village, and a Lucia in SoHo that are both solid. The Di Fara in the South St Seaport is not - only their Midwood location is worth visiting. You can try Bleecker St, Joes, etc., but those places are dramatically overrated. I think folks rate them highly because they have sentimental value, not because they're strong slices. If you do get a dollar slice, I'd recommend $1.50 Fresh. It's a chain, and used to be called 99 Cent Fresh. Avoid all other dollar slices. Pies: Lucali, Johns on Bleecker, and Deninos (West Village) are IMO the best NY pies you can get, and are all different styles. If you do go to Lucali, I'd recommend going on a Monday or a Tuesday to maximize your odds of getting a table. I quite like Ribalta for a sourdough pie. IMO Grimaldis is very overrated. Haven't been to Lombardi's in a very long time, but I heard they've gone downhill. Neopolitan: Song e Napule, Roberta's, Razza (in NJ), and Ops are all something special. I've heard Pizza Secret is excellent but haven't been. Paulie Gees (sit down pie shop, not slice shop) is worth a visit.
