replying to u/CabassoG: Definitely not Al Sham. For Arabic style, I like Damascus (Cobble Hill/downtown BK.) For Turkish, Anteplı (Bay Ridge/Paterson.) For Greek, Poseidon (Hell's kitchen)

replying to u/AttemptRough3891: Overall a pretty good list, but man, someone at the Times has to be on Ayat's payroll. They're constantly recommending them and any time they're thrilled with something I come away heavily disappointed. I tried their knafeh and immediately asked myself why they'd bake this in house when there are places in the neighborhood that do so much better. Plus - how you make an essential pastry list for NYC and miss Villabbate Alba's cannoli is beyond me.

replying to u/CabassoG: Outside of the comment below regarding going outside to NJ or to Bay Ridge in Brooklyn, for the Turkish variety, there's a very good version of the Turkish variety/künefe at Ali Baba Mediterranean on 53rd. Best of the Arabic style is probably at Ayat which has a Alphabet City location. On a side note- the best period in NY/NJ is at Nablus Sweets in Paterson in NJ (it is absurdly good) which has a Brooklyn location which is good but not as good and the best Turkish style you can get is at Antepli.
