    replying to u/Sad_Hungry: People bashing Fette Sau that didn’t live here around 18 years ago, before Williamsburg completely flipped and was starting to change but still had at least traces of its soul left.. Those people won’t understand why this place used to have cache especially when BBQ was hard to find in the boroughs. New places opened and maybe the novelty wore off. That’s fair. Also inflation and COVID hurt most food businesses and that’s across the board. However, there was a time when Fette Sau was destination worthy. Forget that the pit master actually won BBQ competitions, Fette Sau mattered id only because there was a time where there was no John Browns, no Morgans , No Mables, No Delaney Brisket-town (short lived), No Bark , No Mighty Quinns, No Hometown, No Pig Beach, No Hill Country .. …there was the Madison Sq Park BBQ fest in like 2003 and then otherwise places like Dinosaur , Blue Smoke, Pearsons, APL and whatever ersatz chain places like Virgil’s / Dallas BBQ.. RIP Fette Sau as an early pioneer of bringing at least a decent facsimile of Southern BBQ to the masses.

    replying to u/tonyhasareddit: I’m genuinely not shitting on anyone’s taste here, but it makes me sad having grown up in the south that Dallas BBQ is what New Yorkers have to accept as “good” BBQ. You all deserve so much better, it’s passable but that’s about it.
