On a freezing rainy day on our second week as New Yorkers we went in looking for comfort and it forever sealed a place in my heart. It also tastes good.

replying to u/GretaTheGreat: I'm only commenting on restaurants in the crown heights area, as that's what I know. Puerto Viejo is a Dominican place in crown heights (border of prospect heights). They have a great breakfast/brunch. They only open at 11am though, so I don't know if that will work for you. On Nostrand there's a Trinidadian Chinese food place called Trinidad Golden Place. It's fantastic, and I don't know if you can get that food anywhere else in the US. It's not a sit down restaurant -- the definition of no frills counter-top service -- but worth trying out for sure. They open 9 or 10am depending on the day. Another notable Caribbean places in crown heights are The Islands on Washington and Pattie Hut and grill on Nostrand. If not feeling Caribbean in the am, for breakfast I like Bagel Pub, Penny House Cafe, Agi's Counter, Otway Bakery, Polly's cafe.
