Friends Halal

7.3/10Middle Eastern

AI-generated summary

Get the combo plate with chicken and lamb over rice. People say the red sauce has a real spice to it and the green sauce is actually good, which is rare. It runs about $9 for chicken and $10 for the combo. Regulars call it the best halal on the Upper East Side, better than Big Boss or Empire.

  • Fortunately, a combo plate of chicken, lamb, mixed veggies, and rice from here far surpasses its neighbors in the Upper East Side. In particular, the red sauce really has a spice that hits and (rare) a good green sauce. Best in the area so far.

  • Our favorite places that are cheap: Super Taste, meat over rice from Friends Halal, El Aguila for burritos (mmm...goat...), pita sandwiches from Hummus and Pita Co., custom heroes from Agata & Valentina (pick any meat and cheeses from their awesome deli).

  • replying to u/trunksx34: My Go-to's after living in the area for a couple of years (this list got long too) Bagels: Tals (in spite of their terrible service) + Sables for fish.( we've done many taste tests for bagels and lox) Pizza: Delizia 73 normally and more recently Viliage Square, honestly nothing is as good as slice places like Joes downtown though Ice Cream: Sedutto for ice cream, Venchi for Gelato. (agree with the other poster that Anita and every other ice cream place is not as good) Indian: Mughlai, but not a strong favorite Sandwiches: Reginas Grocery which recently opened was great, Milano is probably not worth the wait, I like the sandwiches at Le Petit Parisien too, Wrap and Roll for something quick Halal Cart: 77th and 2nd is pretty good Bakery: Bread from Breads is probably my favorite, orwashers is just fine but overrated IMO Diner: Candy Shop is expensive but probably the best food Burger: JG Melon Sushi: I probably order from sashimi express 2 or three times per week, great for a normal lunch or dinner Ramen, Pho: NR, Two Wheels Chinese: Xi'an over Super Taste, and Tang Dynasty for normal take out, Ollies is solid too Thai: Up Thai Things I haven't found: A good bodega for a BEC

    I absolutely love the place.
