replying to u/detblue524: - Chicken salad sandwich from Winner - Carrot cake from Lloyd's - Broccoli Reuben from Court Street Grocers I disliked chicken salad and carrot cake growing up, and a broccoli reuben sounded bland to me the first time I heard about it. These meals not only changed my mind completely on these dishes, but I started craving them haha. I've definitely had more transcendent and amazing meals in this city, but these meals made me do a complete 180. If anyone has recs for the best dan dan noodles or Hainanese chicken, I'm still looking for that tho

replying to u/hijklmnopqrstuvwx: I love Malaysian food so have been to many places across NYC: * Wau (UWS), my pick - same owner as Laut & Singapura (which just closed). My pick for "up market" Malaysian food * Malaysia Grill (UWS), skip unless in the area I've been a few times it's ok rather go to Wau if in the UWS, it's ok when craving Malaysian food * Kopitiam (Chinatown), worth a visit. serves a menu focussed on snacks and light meals. I like their curry puffs and sweets. * Kuih Cafe (Chinatown), worth a visit. serves a limited weekly menu posted on IG mainly focussed on sweets and some savoury items, no seating. * West New Malaysia (Chinatown), my go to in Chinatown * Nyonya (Chinatown), alternative if West New Malaysia is packed roughly equal in quality / taste * PappaRich (Flushing), skip unless in the area. it's a chain restaurant and quality is hit or miss. I think their roti is freshly made and not frozen.. * Urban Hawker (Midtown), leans more towards Singaporean / South East Asian but has a variety of hawker stalls to try I haven't yet tried * Curry House (Chinatown) * Doyers Oldtown (Chinatown) and a few others I've read about in Sunset Park.
