replying to u/telophaser: Don’t overthink it. There’s so many good slices in NYC — just pop into a few places as you’re walking around and sample a few. In Midtown East, 3 solid slices are Brooklyn Pizza Masters, Sofia. On Upper East, I’m partial to Mimi’s and Salvo’s. On Upper West, I like Sal & Carmine’s. Marinara Pizza also has a few locations and solid slices. Try to avoid the $0.99 pizza joints and chains like Famous Famiglia or Little Italy. Even those aren’t terrible but just average.
