replying to u/FzzyCatz: If you walk south of Fort Tryon Park to 187th Street, between Fort Washington Ave and Pinehurst Ave, there are a few options- High Hill Diner, Tampopo Kitchen (sushi and udon), Dutch Baby Bakery, and Refried Beans (Mexican).

It's *exactly* the thing you want. The plates are hot, the chips are free, the margaritas are huge, the beans always have that *little* bit of a film on them and they've never seen a jalapeño that wasn't pickled. It tastes like a place your best friend's Mom would get excited about going to on a special occasion in a NJ mall.

But I had a tamale there that was completely inedible. Everything I’ve had there has been inedible. I lived in California for a long stretch and while I’m not Mexican I can tell the difference between decent Mexican food and trash.
