    replying to u/Smooth_Influence_488: Moe's Doughs, Dun-Well, and Fan Fan - all better options. If you go really early for Peter Pan, they're less likely to have the one unique thing they have, the custard filled volcanoes. Also you may get stuck behind half a dozen cops that are each taking out multiple dozens. Allow extra time.

    replying to u/ianmac47: Dun-well and Peter Pan are not making the same kind of donuts. Dun-well has no real custard because the whole place is vegan. The flavors are interesting, but the donuts themselves are heavier. Dun-well's best donuts are the cake donuts.

I don’t even think they’re the best donut, but they are simply consistently high quality with fun flavors, an inviting cozy atmosphere, and a really sweet staff who knew me by name on my second visit. Also delicious coffee, and right down the block from Win son if you’re feeling gluttonous

    replying to u/skeeter_skeets: The baker/owner at Moe's worked at Peter Pan for many many years. I like going to both for classic old school donuts. It's very nostalgic. I think the honey dips and sour cream cake are better at Moe's. But, the bagel sandwiches are far superior at Peter Pan. I loved some of the ideas at Doughnut Project. They were playful. Right now, I think Fan Fan Doughnuts and all her collabs are all very exciting. From Kora will be opening her Filipino Donut shop soon and it'll be one to watch for this year with all the excitement she's built through popups. The sourdough donuts at Doughnut Plant are so technically interesting, they are a must for to experience that type of structure in a donut which took their many months to nail down. Dough - just don't go there, they are not good people since the takeover, and it's run by an investor group. Super Nice near Harlem is great and pillowy too -- good texture and consistent! I still need to try Cloudy Donut Co. Also - if you like cruellers. I really think Daily Provisions does THE BEST versions in the city. Go early for them as time and temperature really make a difference. If you hit it at the wrong time the experience suffers, you'll not understand how good they actually are out of the fryer!

    replying to u/milleputti: If you end up in East Williamsburg, Dunwell Donuts is a 100% vegan shop and the donuts are incredible. If you're in Manhattan, Dough donuts has lots of vegan options (though they serve non-vegan too) and they're also fantastic. Overall this is a very allergy and food restriction friendly city- I don't have any dietary restrictions myself so i'm not always paying the most attention, but I do notice that more places here have a range of dietary options and clear labeling on them than anywhere else I go.
