  • replying to u/thansal: At about $2 a donut, Peter Pan is probably the only real option for inexpensive. I'll still take Doughnut Project (anything) or Doughnut Plant (Chocolate Sourdough) though, both of which are double+ the price of Peter Pan. If I'm going to be eating a pastry, I want it to be really damn good.

IMO not worth going out of the way for but it's a fantastic visit for a neighborhood spot.

  • replying to u/Suitable-Peanut: The days of the mom and pop donut shop in NYC are done for the most part. If you found even Peter Pan raised donuts to be heavy then you're not going to find anything better than that. I can't recall ever seeing a maple bar here outside of maybe a morning breakfast cart. I lived on the west coast too and I agree there's nothing better than the little Cambodian shops with the super airy donuts. Nyc style is dense, overpriced and usually some weird flavor you don't want like ube or bacon bits. I've heard good things about donut pub but haven't been. I don't trust it. I would say give Peter Pan another chance I find them to be pretty much perfect. The honey dip and chocolate raised especially.

It's nothing spectacular but god damn, sometimes I just want a good ole sprinkle donut

  • Mike’s and 7th Ave donuts are both my top choices for donuts.

  • replying to u/crazeman: Mike's Donut in Bay Ridge is a old school spot and has 13 donuts for \~$17. IMO not worth going out of the way for but it's a fantastic visit for a neighborhood spot. Kinda interesting: they have a sign advertising their price for 13 donuts on their front window. I was going through their Google street view over the years and you can see the inflation increase over the past few years is pretty fucking nuts. In 2022, it was $16.75 In 2021, it was $13.75 In 2019, it was $9 (No street view in 2020) Basically a 85% increase in 4 years lol. I went there a few months ago and thought it was pretty cheap.

They also have a great cinnamon bun donut.

  • It's nothing SPECIAL but NYC has been overridden by dunkin' donuts, there's only one or two old school donut shops left in NYC and Mike's is one of them.

  • replying to u/isuamadog: Brooklyn: Mike’s donuts bay ridge. The diner on 7th Ave between 8th and 9th in park slope by 7the Ave station has great donuts. Breakfast burritos are fine. Come through sunset park in the morning and do a tamale tour instead.

+1 to Mike’s. The traditional glazed and chocolate donuts in particular!
