replying to u/techrino: Married to a Peruvian who’s a great cook. We go to Lima ~once a year. We live near flor de mayo and often get the roast chicken which is quite good, when we’re too tired to cook. Customers seem to go for the Chinese food a bit more and it’s very popular place. Some of the other Peruvian items like the Tallarin are OK but not amazing. Pio Pio is great but expensive. FYI, not a Peruvian place but their roast chicken gives Flor de Mayo and Pio Pio a run for their money taste and price wise, is el Malecon. A good quick take out option if you live on the UWS. We liked Mission Ceviche. Lomo Saltado was excellent as was everything else. Jora is outstanding. Went only once but plan to go back. Contento on 111th street is probably our favorite. It’s not traditional but creatively excellent. We had a great conversation with the chef when he heard my wife’s accent and guessed that she’s Peruvian. It’s probably the only Peruvian restaurant in NYC we’d take her parents, who still live in Lima. The food in Peru is great, I’ve been 10 times at this point, but the best food I’ve had consistently there, are the home cooked meals.
