replying to u/crazeman: If you don't want dim sum, maybe try hitting up Mabu Cafe? They're from Toronto, slightly more expensive than the other HK cafes (if you're going with older Chinese parents, they will probably bitch about the price lol) but it has a modern "twist" with a fun decor. I don't think there's any other "modern" HK cafe like them in NYC. Maybe there's one in Flushing but I don't think there's one in Brooklyn/Manhattan Chinatown. I actually thought their food was pretty good and enjoyed it too. \--- Another decent option might be the Mott St Eatery food court. Kinda dim sum-like because there's a lot of options here (including dim sum lol). There's also a standard roasted meat stall, Chinese bakery, old school tofu stall from HK, Sanmiwago for beef noodle soup (personal favorite) When I went a week ago, I saw that they added a new ja jain mein stall (I THINK they're another old school stall from China but couldn't google it because the name was in Chinese lol), there's a new Xi'an type stall, and a new kimbap stall. \--- I've heard good things about [1915 Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles](https://maps.app.goo.gl/wjsPVAsW3QXHrZaG9) on this subreddit but have not been there yet. Walk by it the other week and it looked good, but there was a line outside their door when I walked by after my haircut and I'm not about to wait.
