replying to u/TableConnect_Market: I will go all out on karczma > veselka. I could write a little book. But karczma is about as legit as you'll get in america - from the food to the service. I love that place. Veselka is ok, I'll never say no to borsch. But it's not that great, it's more of a celebrity status type thing. Even their borsch is honestly mediocre. Maybe it was good years ago, but not now

replying to u/shnitzzy: To be honest, despite the NYC metro area having such a large Polish diaspora, high-quality options are seriously lacking. I know a lot of people are saying Karczma, but I think the quality has nosedived over the last few years. A lot of the food is too greasy, the dough on the pierogi is too thick, and I find a lot of the menu to be bland. I think the best way to describe NYC-area Polish cuisine is that it's operating at a high 'gimmicky-business' to low 'homemade-taste' ratio if that makes sense. That being said, here are my recommendations: * **Pierozek**: The only place I'll actively recommend for Pierogi. It's funny because every time I go there, the staff on shift doesn't speak Polish. Doesn't matter, these Pierogi are by far the most authentic tasting, and they're actually made with finesse. High ingredient quality too. * **Pyza**: Get the *naleśniki z serem* (Blintz with sweet farmer's cheese). * **Any Polish Deli**: Stop and explore + get any sweets or other snacks that call your name. * **\*\*Restaurant Relax**: I've heard good things, but I haven't personally tried it. Looks promising though. Even without having been I would still recommend this place over Karczma, and you'll probably save some money too. * **\*\*\*Other Slavic Options**: Definitely **not** an easy commute from mid-town but the various pan-Slavic diasporas in and around Brighton Beach are still catered mostly to their local community which is still relatively tight-knit (Greenpoint has very few Po…
