  • I'd put Otto's and Zombie Hut third tier. Fun vibes, mediocre drinks.

  • Both definitely on the divey side (which I like) and both have back rooms that have live music most nights. Attracts diverse age groups and I never feel out of place there.

  • replying to u/Even_Ear_1704: I figured I should come to this location, at least once, even with the plethora of other longstanding restaurants around NYC famed for their soup dumplings. Got a reservation for today at 2:15pm and the service n seating was relatively quick and courteous. I did notice that they're not at full capacity yet, the tables near the back are not seated. Likely due to them still training the workers to handle operations closer to full capacity but totally understandable. I ordered a plethora of things to give it a try and most of the things are pretty decent. Could definitely do with improvement though. 1.Cucumber salad is just right, no complaints. The sesame oil mixture it's in is good. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.Pork and Crab + Pork and Truffle Soup Dumplings- the soup dumplings are small and don't really have much soup. The truffle flavor is good at least in the truffle dumplings but the crab one is weak asf. Could barely detect any of that funky, murky, crab flavor that I'm used to with these dumplings. But, seriously, where's the soup, did it go on a vacation lol. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Pork Chop Fried Rice- the fried rice is pretty spot on. The pork chop though is kindddd of a letdown. I grew up eating Taiwanese pork chops and they're typically much more peppery and juicier than this. I understand the need to probably u…

I used to work for a band that played at Otto’s, and a friend of mine’s band played there recently and I was reminded of how that place rules.

  • Otto’s Shrunken Head in East Village is more divey but also has great drinks and vibes.

  • replying to u/upyourattraction: Love Otto’s. I have every single mug they’ve put out since they opened nearly 22 years ago

Definitely one of my favorite haunts.

  • replying to u/ServiceLow: These are rough ideas the cocktail choices are ideal but yeah will have backups if we can't get walk ins. 7th street will be a quick bite after drinks and Emily will be a more formal intention to try the burger. I feel like Best bagel and coffee when fresh is underrated and I like it better than Russ & Daughters and Tompkins. Absolute is better but a trek to get up there.

There's much better tiki bars in Brooklyn than Otto's.
