  • It was one of the worst sushi meals I've ever had, and definitely the worst omakase.

  • Kosaka had a hectic environment with worse service, though the food seemed more experimental.

  • when I went there was only one hikarimono piece (aji) (might depend on the season though, I went in a summer), and it was pretty decent for what it is.

  • replying to u/madmidget: Is the quality comparable to kosaka?

It’s not on the same level as Kosaka, nor is it trying to be.

  • If we're talking about top omakase places, I count 13: Masa, Noz/Noz 17, Ichimura, Icca, Yoshino, Amane, Yasuda, Kosaka, Noda, Nakazawa, Shion 69 Leonard, and Mr. Moto. Why is 13 restaurants an unreasonable number of great omakase/sushi restaurants for a city that loves sushi in a metropolitan area with over 20 million people?

  • replying to u/madmidget: Thanks for the recommendations. How does Juku compare with Kosaka in terms of nigiri quality? I'm curious about trying omakase room, I've heard good things about it, but I checked their website and they only serve 11 pieces of nigiri. That might be an issue with me since I have a big appetite lol. Do you know if they allow you to order additional pieces?

1:1 quality I might have to give the edge to Kosaka. It’s also a more refined experience overall.

  • replying to u/Fragrant-Ad5173: Have you been to noz or icca? Or yoshino noda? Any insights appreciated ! Shion looks like my top choice but icca has more courses and nigiri

I have not ! I’ve been to Shion, Noda, Kosaka, Ikumi, and Nakazawa - and enjoyed them in that order personally

  • replying to u/laughingwalls: I am gonig to do a write up on Sushi Nakazawa, pretty soon. I think the hate is very undeserved. Essentially if your looking for a fish forward Omakase, I think you have to pay a lot more than Nakazawa. Nakazawa's strength is that its 21 course nigiri only omakase that is under 200$ that is substantially better than what you get at a 120$ place. All the criticism seems to come from snobs that eat at the 400$ sushi place. Kono/Torien/Tempura Matsui are not sushi, so if your looking for sushi I will heartily recommend Nakazawa. I don't know what people mean by not authentic. Nakazawa is a lot more authentic then anything that I've had at places that are cheaper. They offer some things that are not authentic as a supplement like Caviar or Truffle, but they don't particularly encourage it. The actual omakase itself is very straight forward is quite traditional nigiri focused omakase. Its a hell of a lot more authentic then the stuff that gets mentioned at the price points beneath it.

Didn’t have a great experience at kosaka
