replying to u/thansal: Eh? I think it's fine, but not particularly special. Went to the UWS one a week ago, got 4 flavors, legit can't remember any of them except that the whiskey one was a hard fucking miss (mainly tasted like anise, had to sit there going "This is whiskey, this is whiskey" to make it taste at all like whiskey, and when I stopped it would be back to anise). Vegan flavors were good, sorbet was probably the best thing (but again, I don't remember the flavor). They move the line super quick, so that's nice. Fine way to end an evening with a friend (but not lining up by my self). I'm not going back to the UWS for it again, but I'll hit the W Village one, maybe. once more: RIP Ice and Vice.

replying to u/thansal: gods, so many places. I think my 'correct' answer is Dumpling Galaxy and/or Tian Jin Dumpling House. No where else for just a huge selection of dumpling options. But also: * My local pizza place, been like a decade but I'm still salty they got priced out of their rent. * Memories of Shanghai, so fucking good, punched so far above their weight class. * Doughnut Project, still not had a doughnut as good as theirs, but mostly just b/c they were always fresh. * Ice & Vice, this is my other top option... * The original M. Wells, that place was really amazing. * King Yum, b/c young me fucking loved that fake ass 'Polynesian' place and the owner/proprietor was such a nice guy. And I guess just restaurant prices from a decade ago, b/c damn I miss eating out as much as I used to.

replying to u/Sad_Hungry: All the options that you mentioned are solid except Anita. Unfortunately most of their offerings are too sweet and the flavors taste overly synthetic to me. I wanted to like them but they are pretty much the same as a lot of the ersatz “gelato” shops in the city like Venchi or Amorino that have a much of flavors but the execution is off. For gelato I would try Pamina instead. For my taste the gelato they make has much better texture and the ingredients are better quality. Also Lilia makes good gelato if you can bear how hot it is in there all the time. Also il Lab is still pretty good considering the peices much more reasonable. As for ice cream I would add Sugar Hill, Oddfellows (for in shop scoops only the factory pints are lame), Sundaes and Cones, Morgensterns, Sofreh, Bona Bona and Caleta. Soft Serve : Soft side Leo Laser Wolf Milk & Cream or Kith Treats for the sugar cereal infused concoctions Ray’s Candy Store for trashy but somehow simultaneously likable pistacho soft serve Milu Pizza Places with ice cream / gelato : Fini, Mamas too, Lindustrie RIP Milkmade a true gem RIP Fort Grace RIP Ice & Vice RIP Fresco RIP the gelato at Otto If you want schtick and nostalgia Eddies Sweet Shop and Brooklyn Farmacy are kitschy and fun.

replying to u/thansal: I've got to admit, there's not a tonne of people repeating things. A couple I didn't see: * Ice & Vice, best ice cream ever. Constantly creating new flavors, rotating past hits in and out, willing to try ridiculous shit (candied mushrooms and splinters of pine wood were NOT good mixins). Love and Hate was my all time favorite. * Memories of Shanghai. Tiny place off the main drag of Austin St the punched so far above its weight class. Those were my favorite soup dumplings. * Tian Jin Dumpling House/Dumpling Galaxy/anything else from Helen You. My favorite dumplings ever. Both traditional combinations executed excellently, or creative flavors that were worth the effort. Also, another great place for soup dumplings. * New Flushing Bakery - My favorite egg tarts. There's a few more, but those are the four that I'm seriously still in mourning about. I mean, I'm still in mourning for my pizza place, but they closed over 10 years ago.

replying to u/thansal: The original M. Wells will forever be my favorite restaurant ever. Dinner food with interesting (and excellent) adaptations to really make it their own stuff. That said: * Ice & Vice - no other ice cream shop gets me excited like they do (and I love ice cream). * Memories of Shanghai - Going to be salty about that for a while. * Doughnut Project - fucking hell. * My fucking local pizza shop - closed over a decade ago and I'm still salty. * Dumpling Galaxy/Tian Jin Dumpling House - Anything from Helen You. An amazing variety of fantastically executed dumplings, this is going to be my white whale forever probably.
