August Gatherings

8.3/10Chinese

AI-generated summary

Upscale Cantonese in Chinatown, closer to fine dining than the usual banquet room. People say the menu is huge and hard to order badly from, with the and the abalone dishes named most. The lunch special of three items over rice is the cheap way in. Almost everyone mentions the price.

August gathering is really good (but on expensive side).

  • replying to u/DanielMekelburg: i like yinji too. i often will get their fish congee, which is very good. the frog congee i had at congee village was on that level. and the crab dish was better than expected. and the snails were just about perfect. for what we ordered, it was unimprovable. there are a lot of cantonese spots in new york city. i chose this one on that particular evening. it was friday night, i was just rejected from about 5 hip spots and i was excited to be here after my dining partner relented and let us eat chinese.

August gathering is on another level, but expensive.

  • replying to u/killerasp: August Gatherings might be a good spot. I would look at something more "upscale" in Chinatown if you want a quieter place to chat. A place like Uncle Lous while great, I can see packed with tourists during lunch hour.

+1 to August gatherings! One of my favorites and it feels so nice and quiet in the booths

  • August Gatherings for a Cantonese lunch special, I think their three BBQ items over rice is particularly good.
