replying to u/bee_shaman: I also have a hard time hearing in loud restaurants, and have had a number of meals at Oceana (6th & 49th) without having any trouble hearing my companions. It's a larger place, not cozy, but doesn't seem to turn other diners into a cacophony like many places do. Haven't been in the main dining room when it was packed though.
