replying to u/thansal: I've never actually looked at their cocktail menu, only ever dorked out over the spirits lists. There's some pretty wild ideas in the reserve list. As was pointed out, reservations, nice tables and chairs, lovely space that matches the vibe of Au Chevel (well, same idea, but a couple steps up), and if you're at all interested in spirits they have one of the most impressive lists out there (though if you're a dork about rum, check out Paradise Lost, their rum list is really awesome).

replying to u/thansal: If any of you are spirit nerds, or want to be spirit nerds, Brandy Library is a good option for this type of thing, but really just for the drinking side (I mean, they make lovely Gougères, but that's not really the reason to go). They do have cigars, but only for smoking outside, not awesome if it's this time of the year. They take (encourage) reservations. The standout thing is that they do flights of spirits, including some particularly rare bottles at shockingly reasonable prices.

replying to u/DizzyDumpling: Can't beat the view at Manhatta. Some New York classics - Balthazar, River Cafe (also great view, take the ferry), Cafe Luxembourg. Libertine is newer but has a great French bistro feel. Chinese food in NYC is way better than London - Cafe China and Cheli are both a bit more upscale.
