The combo of their cheese and whatever they do with their onions is unbeatable. However, I do put Red Hook as a restaurant above Lords and could honestly be my favorite restaurant in the city.

replying to u/uni-twit: I've got two overlooked gems and classic New York joints: * [Red Flame Diner](https://www.theredflamediner.com/Welcome.tpl?action=nc&from=Top125) on 44th and 6th Ave flame broil their burgers, making their hamburger deluxe my favorite in the city. Maybe not an official hole in the wall given how well kept up it is, but it's cheap with friendly staff, always a table. * [White Horse Tavern](https://www.whitehorsetavernfidi.com) on Bridge and Whitehall in FiDI *is* a true hole in the wall that offers an excellent burger and cheap cold beer on tap. It's a classic New York bar that, over the decades, was a favorite to grab lunch at or hit for dinner when I worked in the neighborhood. They have a funky set up where you order directly from the grill across the floor from the bar counter.
