replying to u/crazeman: Cocoron is my favorite soba noodle spot. Go Go Curry is a Japanese chain, multiple location in NYC. I've tried many Japanese curry places, but this is still my favorite Japanese despite probably being the cheapest. Great lunch spot. Katsu Hama has a Berkshire pork katsu. They also have very reasonably priced combo sets with sushi/donburi/udon/etc. Hakata Ton Ton has the best hot pot in the city. They used to have old ass spot in West Village. They closed around COVID times and reopened in Koreatown last year. They serve Japanese style nabe/hot pot. Yakiniku West is mostly Japanese BBQ but they have lots of non BBQ stuff too. They have different specials on different days, making their prices pretty reasonable. Like they'll have salmon day, prime short rib day, Kobe short ribs day, etc. Geido is a amazing local spot in Brooklyn. IMO they have one of the best price to quality ratio. Rai Rai Ken + Curry Ya + Otafuku are the 3 OGs in East Village that deserves a mention. They used to be separate restaurants with Rai Rai Ken serving ramen, Curry Ya serving Japanese curry, Otafuku serving Japanese street food like taiyaki/yakisoba/takoyaki. I honestly didn't even realize they merged until now, I need to give them another try. It looks like they got fucked over by COVID and formed this 3 headed beast to survive the pandemic.
