replying to u/Foodiegirlie030793: In Astoria - Between the Bagel used to be named Bagelberry (which wasn’t doing very well). The owners sold it to Ben during pandemic who changed the name and invented the Seoul meets Bagel (bulgogi egg and cheese with kimchi slaw and mayo). He had a slow start but business is thriving now.

replying to u/JustinianTheWrong: This is a slightly indirect answer but the most lox per dollar I’ve ever had was at Tal’s on E83rd & Lex - but not their lox bagel, actually their lox spread. They load it up with such big chunks of salmon that it ends up with more fish than most lox bagels that are easily 2X the price. Plus, imo it’s a vastly underrated bagel maybe my favorite in the city. They are making fresh batches throughout the day as late as like 5PM, and the bagels absolutely kill it on texture imo. Super glassy blistered exterior, dense chewy inside, yeasty flavor. Love that place, can’t recommend enough. Once had Tal’s on UWS though and it was god awful, worst bagel I’ve ever gotten from a bagel shop including ones I’ve had in like California. Apparently the different locations have very little to do with each other, so my rec only applies to the Tal’s on 83rd.

Bakeries - a lot of better options (radio bakery, ALF, supermoon, la Cabra, even Mah ze dar) Soul/sourhern - make the trip to Harlem and go to Sylvia’s, Amy Ruth’s or (less old school) red rooster Burger - depends on what kind of burger you’re looking for Bagels - good selection, I recommend Tompkins square though Also: hit up a kosher deli/store (greengras, B&H, edit: just saw russ on your list) BBQ - no real outstanding options You’re missing Chinatown, Korean, and tons of other “ethnic food” imo - search the sub (just put in “best…”)
